Winter Moth Workshop

Details: The Eastern RI Conservation District, sponsored by the Newport Arboretum, will host a free public workshop in Newport, RI regarding the winter moth, featuring speaker Heather Faubert from the University of Rhode Island Cooperative Extension. Winter moth is an invasive pest introduced into North America from Europe. With no natural enemies, the winter moth population is exploding. These caterpillars are devastating Rhode Island, including fruit trees and backyard ornamentals. Come learn the steps to protect your trees, woodlots and orchards and reduce the extent of winter moth defoliation.

Details: This popular program introduces children ages 18 months to 2 years to the delights of nature through age-appropriate, hands-on activities. Along with a nature lesson, activities may include nature walks, crafts, songs and stories. This is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends with the other children and parents. Registration is required as space is limited and fills very quickly. Adults must accompany children and there are no refunds for missed classes. In order to maintain an age-appropriate program we ask that older siblings not accompany the parent/child team.
