Unparalleled ocean views, world renowned accommodations and experiences unlike any other have always been a given in our quaint seaside city. Luckily for us (and you, too!) that's just the beginning. With each new year, we look forward to the return of our favorite tried-and-true events. You know the ones - Newport Winter Festival, Newport Flower Show, Newport Polo at Glen Farm, Newport Folk Festival - the ones you cross the days off on your calendars in anticipation for each year. Admittedly, we do just the same.

 

Here's the 2018 lineup of all your favorite Newport RI events.

 

JANUARY

Newport Polar Bear Plunge
January 1

Every New Years Day at precisely 12:00 PM, participants run into the winter waters at Easton's Beach, some dressed in costumes, some as part of teams and some in their bathing suits pulled from their stock of summer threads. The efforts are partly for fun, believe it or not, and partly for a good cause. The plunge raises money each year for the Make a Wish Foundation, comprised of tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters who work to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. 

 

FEBRUARY

30th Annual Newport Winter Festival
February 16 - 25

Touted as New England's Largest Winter Extravaganza, the 30th Annual Newport Winter Festival features 10 days of non stop music, food and fun. Featuring more than 150 events, the Festival offers a unique winter experience combining food, festivities, music, and fun for all ages. Highlighted events include the Children’s Fair, Chili Cook-Off, Princess Party and exciting, fun concerts by the Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Changes in Latitudes and more.

NEWPORT BURGER BENDER
February 16 - 25

Unfolding in tandem with the Newport Winter Festival, Newport Burger Bender is a simple "best burger" contest throughout Newport and Bristol Counties. Participating restaurants toss their buns into the ring with the hopes of being crowned the best burger. Try one. Try some. Try them all. Then vote for your favorite.

Bonus: You’ll be automatically entered to win one of our DAILY giveaways throughout the Burger Bender contest.

Newport Bridal Show
February 17

Hosted at two of the most elegant wedding venues, Rosecliff Mansion and OceanCliff, hundreds of engaged couples will have the chance to shop everything needed for the perfect wedding all in one day. Meet with wedding professionals, peruse unique products and services, and enter to win one of many fabulous door prizes. 

 

MARCH

Newport Irish Heritage Month
March 1 - 31

A month-long celebration of Irish history in Newport featuring a schedule of events hosted by the Newport Irish Heritage Society including folk dancing, a community breakfast, the Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade and more. 

 

Newport Restaurant Week/Spring
March 2 - 11

Newport Restaurant Week, part of a nationwide movement, debuted here in 2006 as an annual event to encourage both residents and visitors to Newport and Bristol counties to experience the vast culinary talent in our destination at an affordable price. Today, Newport Restaurant Week takes place both in the spring and in the fall with more than 50 participating restaurants offering extraordinary three-course prix fixe lunches for $16 and three-course prix fixe dinners for $35.

Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade
March 17

The Annual Newport Saint Patrick's Day Parade will be held, rain, snow, or shine beginning promptly at 11:00 AM from Newport City Hall and proceeding to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church in the heart of the Fifth Ward. The parade includes Pipe Bands, Marching Bands, Fife & Drum Corps, Clown Units, reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits.

 

Easter Egg Hunt & Brunch at Rosecliff
March 31

Join the Easter Bunny at Rosecliff Mansion to share lots of eggs, candy, prizes and scrumptious seated brunch for everyone in the family. Space is limited and reservations are required. 

 

APRIL

Blithewold – The Gateway to Spring
April 1 - May 31

Each April, Blithewold opens its gates to welcome visitors as springtime begins. The season unfurls with their well-known daffodil display, covering this 33-acre seaside estate with more than 50,000 daffodils that delight visitors for nearly a month.

Newport Daffodil Days Festival
April 14 - 22

Step into spring and join the doggie parade, see what’s behind themed storefront window displays and wear your daffiest hats. Enjoy the Daffy Bike Ride, Waltz of the Flowers, photo completion and more during the annual Newport Daffodil Days Festival throughout downtown Newport.

 

MAY

VOLVO OCEAN RACE NEWPORT
May 8 - 20

Renowned as the world's premier offshore race and an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavor, the Volvo Ocean Race arrives in Newport, its only North American Stopover, at Fort Adams and features a lengthy lineup of activities and events including a dynamic "Race Village" where visitors can stroll the docks to see the sailboats up-close, watch high performance racing within yards of the shore, bring the entire family for shore side entertainment, watch the workings of the team compounds, entertainment pavilions, boatyard and sail loft, visit the kids zone, enjoy marine education and sustainability exhibits and more. 

 

Bowen’s Wharf Newport Oyster Festival
May 19 - 20

The Newport Oyster Festival connects Rhode Island growers with the oyster-loving public, as well as the chefs and restaurants that serve them. Sponsors, growers, non-profits and exhibitors are on-site during the Festival to educate and provide opportunities to enjoy the bounty of aquaculture in Rhode Island.

JUNE

International Polo Series Begin
June 2

Kick off the 27th season of the Newport International Polo series offering action-packed matches every Saturday through September. Watch as all-star lineups of international competitors take the field. Experience a tailgate party for the optimal experience, or plant your seat in the lawn and relax. Just don’t forget to help stomp the divots!

 

British Motorcar Festival
June 8 - 10

Indulge in the beauty of classic British motorcars from across New England and participate in exciting events like the Scenic Back Roads Rally, Friday Night Street Party, British Attire Competition, Tailgate Competition, and many more.

 

Newport Flower Show
June 22 - 24

Gilded Age "cottages" were built with every convenience, designed for entertaining and to represent a lifestyle. Today's cottages, much like their gilded ancestors, are also about lifestyle. Celebrate these homes and their adjacent gardens, all thoughtfully curated and vibrant. Enjoy judged horticultural specimens and floral designs, special garden exhibitions, free lectures and demonstrations, children's activities, and wonderful shopping experiences.

JULY

Bristol Fourth of July Parade
July 4

The oldest Fourth of July parade celebration in America will step-off at the corner of Chestnut Street and Hope Street at 10:30 AM.

 

Newport Music Festival
July 4 - 22

Enjoy over sixty classical concerts featuring unique chamber music, American debuts, world-class artist and special events held in Gilded Age mansions and other venues.

The Black Ships Festival
July 12 - 15

A Festival celebrating the friendship between Newport and their sister city Shimoda, Japan offering a variety of events emphasizing both Japanese art and culture.

 

Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open
July 15 - 22

Each year, top ATP World Tour pros head to Newport to compete in the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, the first stop of the summer swing for pro tennis in the United States. Contested on the historic grass tennis courts of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, which have hosted all the legends of the sport since 1880, the tournament is the only event played on grass courts outside of Europe, and it offers the only opportunity to see professional men's tennis in the Northeast prior to the US Open.

Newport Folk Festival
July 27 - 29

The Newport Folk Festival was founded by George Wein in 1959, takes place on the grounds at Fort Adams State Park and features four stages of world class musicians, food, vendors and a number of exhibits.

 

Bridgefest/Newport
July 30 - August 2

A local live music and music education festival that “bridges” the gap between the prestigious Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals for a continuous 10 days of music in our community.

 

AUGUST

Newport Jazz Festival
August 3 - 5

This prestigious jazz festival features three full days of Jazz musicians on three unique stages at Fort Adams State Park.

 

Weekend of Coaching
August 17 - 19

A colorful tradition that evokes the spirit of an era. Members of the Coaching Club from around the country will bring their historic coaches and their teams of trained carriage horses to Newport, to display the art and sport of coaching. It happens only every 3 years, so you won't want to miss the spectacle as the coaches drive through the streets of Newport.

 

SEPTEMBER

Newport International Boat Show
September 13 - 16

The show encompasses 13 acres of Newport’s famed waterfront with all makes and models of powerboats and sailboats ranging from 16 ft. to 85 ft. ready for boarding and review. On the land side, there’s a bountiful array of marine products and services to enhance the boating lifestyle. Domestic and international dealers and manufacturers will be on hand to provide you with valuable information and answers to all your questions.

Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival
September 20 - 23

Experience the grand tasting with hundreds of wines on the lawn of Marble House – celebrity chef appearances and cooking demonstrations by national and regional personalities.

 

Norman Bird Sanctuary Harvest Fair
September 29 - 30

An autumn ritual for generations of families, this beloved old-fashioned fair offers something for everyone featuring children’s crafts and games. Talented crafters and artisans sell their beautifully created items, enticing fair-goers to get a jump on holiday shopping. Local food and beer vendors offer an array of appetizing selections, while an impressive line-up of musicians round out the festive atmosphere. 

 

OCTOBER

Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival
October 13 - 14

Honoring the harvest of the sea, this Festival offers fresh local seafood, continuous live music and family fun.

 

NOVEMBER

Newport Restaurant Week/Fall
November 2 - 11

Prepare your taste buds for mouthwatering menus this season with 3 course prix-fixe lunches and dinners at over 55 participating restaurants throughout Bristol and Newport County; experience culinary walking tours, chef demos, special themed events and more.

Christmas at the Newport Mansions
November 17 - January 1

The glitter of gold and the sparkle of silver will dazzle you as you tour three magnificent mansions decked out in Yuletide finery. The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House filled with thousands of poinsettias, fresh flowers, evergreens and wreaths.
