NEW EXHIBIT “CROSSING THE LINE: UNOFFICIAL U.S. NAVY TRADITIONS”

THE TRAIN TO SANTA’S WORKSHOP

Details: Hop on board the Express Train for a magical journey to Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole. Upon arrival you’ll be able to get off and visit with Santa in a special old-fashioned parlor car, where children can visit and tell him what they want for Christmas. While you are waiting there will be sing-a-longs and other attractions going on in the workshop. Each group of passengers will have about 45 minutes to spend with Santa and his elves in the workshop before catching the next train back. Trains are limited to 80 people.

The all table car train is limited to only 60 seats. During the trip children will have the opportunity to go to another car and sit with Santa. The Breakfast with Santa train ride is approximately one hour and 30 minutes in length. The train departs from downtown Newport.

THE LAUNCH OF RHODE ISLAND’S REVOLUTIONARY ARTILLERY: A NEWPORT HISTORICAL SOCIETY LECTURE

Details: In December 1774, the Rhode Island Assembly voted to move almost all of the cannons in Newport’s Fort George to Providence in order to, as the governor stated, “prevent their falling into the hands of the King.” The Assembly also formed a new “Train of Artillery,” a military company assigned to use those cannon to defend the colony. Oddly, however, the train’s commanders were from Boston. Within a few months, Rhode Island’s artillerists became one of the most respected units of the new Continental Army.

Details: "Oh, what fun it is to ride”… Come enjoy some old-fashioned holiday fun at Blithewold’s winter wonderland on a horse-drawn carriage ride, perfect for a snuggle-up-in-warm-blankets romantic rendezvous or fun for the whole family. Our bow- and garland-festooned carriage, which holds up to 8 people, will take a trip down our wooded Lover’s Lane, then cross Blithewold’s Great Lawn. Families will be photographed in the sleigh before the ride begins. The photos could be used for holiday greeting cards or to frame and cherish for years to come! Allan Millora Photography will provide each family with a digital image to keep, or offer your choice of a selected photo package. 

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the Dining Room, where you will wait for your ride. Upon registration, you will be given your time slot for the approximately 15-minute ride.

Details: Linden Place’s Museum will celebrate the holiday season with two fundraiser concerts and sing-a-longs with Josh Groban style pianist and singer, Michael DiMucci. DiMucci will be performing on Friday, December 9 at 7:30pm. For those who prefer an afternoon concert, DiMucci will do an encore performance on Sunday, December 1311 at 2:00pm.
