Established in 2001 and now in its 15th year, Newport Gallery Night stands as first-hand evidence that Newport's art scene is alive and well. On the second Thursday of every month, art aficionados of all kinds stroll the streets of our bustling wharves and eclectic neighborhoods to experience the work of 25+ galleries. Participating galleries, museums and cultural institutions will be open from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. Some of the organizations you can visit include: Spring Bull Gallery, Blink Gallery, DeBlois Gallery, and Harbor Fine Art. A full list of participating galleries can be found here.
This month, Spring Bull Gallery invites the public to their newest exhibition, “Two Barretts: Irving and Julie”, showcasing the works of Irving & Julie Barrett. Shortly after Irving’s beloved wife Julie passed away in the spring of 2014 he was invited to have a show at Spring Bull Gallery featuring works of his and Julie’s. Irving’s art capture in color detail the subject matter whether it is birds, dogs or his beloved Julie, as in this exhibit. Julie preferred black and white drawings and clay to express her creativity. The exhibition will run until November 31.
The Redwood Library is promoting a special event on Thursday, November 10 at 5:30 PM. The Abraham Redwood Medal for Contributions to History and Culture is being awarded to historian Gordon S. Wood at the Casino Theater. Wood will also be giving a talk titled “Advice to the Egyptians (and other Arabs) from the Founding Fathers” after the presentation of the medal.
Blink Gallery will be hosting their Second Annual Mini Art Show from November 12 to January 8.
DeBlois Gallery will be opening their Holiday Craft Show on November 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. They will be selling one of a kind gifts from over 60 local artisans, including artwork, clothing, jewelry, and ornaments.
