As you are most likely aware, in just a few short months the world's most grueling and exciting ocean race is making its way to the only North American stopover throughout its nine-month excursion -- our City by the Sea.

Volvo Ocean Race, renowned as the world's premier offshore race and an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavor, will arrive at Fort Adams on May 5-17, and with it will come a host of exciting events and activities. As part of the stopover, a dynamic "Race Village" will be open to the public where visitors will be able to stroll the docks to see the sailboats up-close, watch high performance racing within yards of the shore, bring the entire family for shore side entertainment, watch the workings of the team compounds, entertainment pavilions, boatyard and sail loft, visit the kids zone, enjoy marine education and sustainability exhibits an international food festival, dramatic theater presentations and crawl through a gigantic boat cross section at race headquarters. Yes, yes it is a lot.

It's no wonder planning for the event began almost two years ago! As you may not be aware, however, on Tuesday, January 13, Sail Newport announced that SCA, a leading global hygiene and forest products company and the sponsor of Team SCA, the first all-female team to sail the race in over a decade, will be the Official Sustainability and Sustainability Education Sponsor of the Newport, RI stopover. As the Official Sustainability and Sustainability Education Sponsor and Silver-level Corporate Partner, SCA will provide its expertise to support zero-waste and recycling efforts and will act as the exclusive tissue and hygiene products provider of the twelve-day public event. SCA's Tork brand of Away-from-Home professional hygiene products, including napkins, hand towels, bath tissue, soap, hand sanitizer and dispensers, will be present throughout public facilities in the Newport Race Village. The sponsorship also extends to educational programs, as SCA will host a sustainable forest exhibit held at The Exploration Zone of the race village to teach young children about the lifecycle of forest environments.

Lastly, in honor of Team SCA's magenta boat, SCA will host a Magenta Music Night, which will include an evening of live music and activities for Newport Race Village visitors. Additional details about the concert series will be announced closer to the event. With all that being said, only four more months until this renowned race makes its way to our sailing capital! Get ready, Newport.
