In it’s fourth year, the Busking @ Bowen’s series welcomes musical artists who bare their soul in an intimate setting amidst the shops and restaurants on historic Bowen’s Wharf. Located right on the water, Bowen’s is at the heart of Newport’s summer shopping and dining community. Busking is a street, performance-art that is intended to draw in a rotating audience.
With the summer heat in full swing a team from Coole Swan – Superior Irish Cream Liqueur will join us nightly in the Pilot House offering free samples and recipes…think Mudslides! The finest Single Malt Irish Whiskey, sourced from one of Ireland’s oldest distilleries, was selected and blended with Real White Belgian Chocolate and Fresh, Natural Dairy Cream from a family farm north if Dublin to create Coole Swan.
All ages are welcome. Busking @ Bowen’s is a rain or shine event. Admission is free. Sampling of Coole Swan Superior Irish Cream will be at the Bowen’s Wharf Pilot House, 45 America’s Cup Avenue, and only available to 21 and over. The Pilot House is Newport’s go-to welcome center for tour info and tickets to over 25 venues and sites. Our friendly local staff will be glad to steer visitors in the right direction! Ilana Katz Katz • Tuesday July 26, 2016 from 6-9 PM
A veteran of Busking @ Bowen’s, BridgeFest, and the Boston busking scene, Ilana’s fiddling stems from the old-time Appalachian tradition and dives deep into the Blues. Her unique style – as a solo artist and in a band – has taken her to the stage and to the studio with greats such as (BMA) Blues Music Award Winner Ronnie Earl, BMA nominee Barry Levenson (Canned Heat), NY Blues Hall of Famer Bobby Radcliff, multi-grammy nominated Cedric Watson and Grammy nominee Chas Justus – to name a few. In addition to her Blues and Appalachian music mainstays, she is a versatile, improvisational musician, as comfortable performing solo in large theaters as she is being featured in 14 piece rock bands or on Boston’s Subway platforms (where you can find her most Fridays).

Just fourteen years old, Thatcher Harrison plays everything from pop standards to jazz, classical, fingerstyle, eight-finger tapping on one guitar, and eight-finger tapping on two guitars. A talented musical arranger, Thatcher has crafted impressive versions of songs ranging from Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” to Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” to Brubeck’s “Take Five.” Harrison has delighted audiences at a number of area music festivals, including Harrifest - A Tribute to George Harrison; Singing Out Against Hunger; the New Bedford Folk Festival, and the Tiverton Arts and Artisan Festival.
