Today's Coastal Cooking recipe is courtesy of Chef Andy Teixeira from Newport Vineyard's Brix Restaurant in Middletown, Rhode Island via our weekly Rhode Show segments, which premiere Tuesdays at 9:00 AM.



  • 1 head Red Cabbage, shredded
  • 1 Onion, sliced
  • 2 Tart Apples, sliced
  • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup Cider Vinegar
  • 1/2 cup Nptv Pinot Noir
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp. Caraway Seed
  • 3/4 cup Vegetable Stock
  • 2 tbsp. Unsalted Butter
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste


  • Heat oil in sauce pot.
  • Add cabbage, vinegar, wine, stock, sugar, caraway, and salt; stir to combine.
  • Raise heat to medium-high, cover, and cook 5 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, and continue to cook, covered, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes.
  • Stir apple into cabbage, and cook, covered, until cabbage and apples are tender.
  • Stir in butter.
  • Season with pepper.
