Evergreens, ribbon, sheers and ornaments fill the Rotunda at Easton's Beach yearly for the annual Lucy's Hearth Wreath and Bake Sale. The benefit, a fundraiser to support Lucy's Hearth, the only local shelter for homeless women and children in Middletown, is now in its 15th year and sees abundant success with throngs of people waiting outside to shop locally-made, designer wreaths. In addition to one-of-a-kind wreaths, the fundraiser also offers an upscale bake sale featuring sumptuous treats from local bakeries and sweet shops. Homemade jams and jellies, cookies, breads and even dog treats are all artfully wrapped for gift giving. This year's event takes place Saturday, December 5th from 9 am-12 pm at Easton's Beach Rotunda, 175 Memorial Blvd. All sales will benefit Lucys Hearth. ABOUT LUCY'S HEARTH
Established in 1984, Lucys Hearth serves as a 24-hour emergency shelter for homeless mothers and their children offering a number of programs including a transitional and permanent apartment program, as well as outreach and aftercare programs. During their stay, mothers work towards reaching milestones that will drastically improve their quality of life, from obtaining their high school equivalency degrees and improving their English language skills to learning financial management skills and eventually obtaining employment. All the while, their childrens quality of life simultaneously improves as well, as they attend school, receive assistance with homework, take field trips, and receive clothing and toys.
