Golf lovers, did you know Newport Country Club is one of America's earliest golf clubs? It was founded in 1893 by Theodore Havemeyer, a wealthy sportsman whose family owned the American Sugar Company. Havemeyer first played the game of golf on a trip in the south of France in 1889 and after returning to his summer home in Newport, convinced a few others from the summer colony's social elite to purchase the 140-acre Rocky Farm. Today, the course is renowned as "The #1 Golf Course You Can Play in New England," with 7,244 yards of gorgeous terrain.
