Ten new restaurants and expanded eateries in Newport's food scene have our inner foodies rejoicing. From an outdoor parking lot turned beer garden to a late-night pop-up cookie shop, here's all the spots we're currently indulging in.
"Life gave us all lemons, so we made a beer garden," reads the website for the new Outer Element. This long-time dormant parking lot/gas station turned outdoor beer-garden-esque dining area neighbors its parent restaurant, The Fifth Element, and was constructed in response to COVID-19 dining restrictions to serve as a cheerful place for guests to dine in accordance with new regulations. Adorned in potted plants and vibrant picnic tables under a canopy of Edison-bulb string lights, Outer Element is tied together by a mural that reads out "HOPE" on the back wall commissioned by a local artist.
The menu is comprised of Fifth Element favorites including pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and more.

From the owners of Stoneacre Brasserie in Newport's Washington Square comes the new Stoneacre Garden located in Swineburne Row (the old Barking Crab if you remember the days). The design is inspired by the gardens and grounds of the Stoneacre Estate, with a cheerful yellow and red awning reminiscent of a circus tent from days gone by. Your whimsical al fresco experience comes adorned in lush greenery hung from the outdoor awning. Make your way through the open garage doors at each end of the interior and past a collection of eccentric furnishings, up to the rooftop bar overlooking America's Cup Avenue for a craft cocktail. And on the menu? Expect seasonal farm-to-table fare similar to that of Stoneacre Brasserie.

RESTAURANTS ON THE MOVE
VIESTE VINO & WINE BAR
This Italian eatery previously located at 515 Thames Street is moving down the block to open at 580 Thames Street, the location formerly occupied by Lorusso's Cafe, Reclaimed Cafe and Yagi Noodles. There's a twist, though. Basil Yu, owner and chef at Yagi Noodles will continue cooking Asian creations, but as part of the new Vieste. Yu, who previously served as the Chef de Cuisine at The Vanderbilt and a guest chef at former The Revolving Door, opened Yagi Noodles as a pop-up style eatery specializing in handmade, whole wheat ramen noodles after traveling to Japan and Southeast Asia to learn more about ramen. Now, he'll be in the kitchen at Vieste combining Japanese and Italian cuisine.

The Mission Group announced at the end of June that they will permanently close the doors to their Mission location at 29 West Marlborough Street in Newport. Not to worry, that's not the end of Newport's beloved burger joint. Their Middletown location at 58 Aquidneck Avenue is still open and recently expanded into the adjacent space. The eatery now offers "Mission Mornings" in their new space, which includes a selection of egg sandwiches, The Nitro Bar's nitro cold brew, and is even serving up Empire Tea & Coffee's hot and iced coffee, a nod to the space's previous occupiers.

The sister restaurant to long-standing Newport eatery Brick Alley Pub, Plumby's was once located on the second floor of the BAP, but recently made a move to Middletown. Plumby's is a fast, casual joint that offers some of Brick Alley's favorites, like their award-winning nachos, Portuguese stuffed clams, wings and more. The star of the show here, however, is the burgers. Think: chili cheese, bacon jam, chourico mac' n' cheese, and Georgie Gold BBQ.
