Newport Art Museum will present two film screenings & workshops in partnership with the Providence Children's Film Festival this April. The two events will take place during April school vacation to keep young ones artfully engaged during their break from school. These events mark the third time the Museum has partnered with the Providence Children's Film Festival to bring high-quality, family films to delight and inspire viewers of all ages. Each event takes place in the historic Griswold House, the main building on the three-building campus of the Newport Art Museum.
Animating the Museum
Date: Tuesday, April 18, 2017
Time: 1:00 PM
The beauty and variety of animation techniques used in this eclectic, engaging collection will surely inspire you for the hands-on animation workshop to follow with Coleman Center for Creative Studies Animation Instructor Dan Smith. Using artworks from the Museum's collection as 3-dimensional backdrops, children will create mixed media characters and bring the artwork to life by filming a short stop motion scene.
Through the Woods: An Appalachian Adventure
Date: Thursday, April 20, 2017
Time: 1:00 PM
Enjoy a trek down the Appalachian Trail with Grammy Award winning folk musicians, The Okee Dokee Brothers. On their month long escapade, they hiked, camped, met mountain musicians, wrote original songs, and sang old-time tunes, and laughed all the way. After the film, try writing lyrics for your own folk adventure tune, create a percussive instrument, and play some real ones with the Newport String Project musicians
Tickets for each film and workshop are $10 per child and free for parents/caregivers. Tickets can be purchased at newportartmuseum.org.
Advanced reservations recommended as space is limited.
