The Newport Art Museum this week welcomes Onne van der Wal, marine photographer and sailor, for the second lecture in the Newport Art Museum's 88th annual Winter Speaker Series on  Saturday, January 16at 2 pm in the Museum's Griswold House at 76 Bellevue Avenue, Newport. Van der Wal will speak on his experiences documenting the ocean while sailing around the world and will share his portfolio new work in a talk entitled "Magical Seas Through Inspired Lens". One of the most prolific and talented marine photographers in the world of sailing, van der Wal was born in Holland and raised in South Africa, where he soon discovered a passion for ocean racing. His skills landed him a crew position aboard the Flyer II in the Whitbread Round the World Race in 1981-82. With camera in tow, the race was won, and the visceral images van der Wal shot launched his photography career.
