An overwhelming number of yoga poses involve saluting the sun. It only makes sense then, that we take our yoga classes outdoors. From sandy beaches and rooftop sessions to sprawling vineyards and blooming gardens, these sunny spots have everything you need to engage your inner yogi in the open air.
1. ON A SEASIDE DOCK
Wake up your body and clear your mind while overlooking Newport Harbor at Newport Shipyard's dock. You'll flow through breath-centered yoga poses that target core strength, balance, and flexibility, all while making a connection to mind, body, breath and nature. Classes are led by instructors from Newport Community Yoga. Don't forget your mat and water.

2. ON THE BEACH
Island Yoga is heading out to Third Beach for a mixture of sun and salutations. The community class is held five days per week for one hour. Reduce tension, increase strength and flexibility, and find inner peace among the sound of the waves. $10 per person. Details.

Wake up your body in this dynamic all levels class with Newport Community Yoga that focuses on mind, body, and breath connection to create meditation in motion. Class is held at Second Beach Path 8 at the west end. Classes by donation. Details.

3. ON A FARM SURROUNDED BY GOATS
The goat yoga trend began last spring in Oregon, and has since made its way to the East Coast. Intrigued? Simmons Organic Farm in Middletown hosts Goat Yoga every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 PM and Fridays at 10:00 AM. The serene farmstead lends itself to a relaxing session of yoga, with rolling green lawns and a scenic view of the ocean. Not to mention, you'll be surrounded by a gaggle of baby goats. Details.

4. ON A HARBOR-SIDE ROOFTOP
Focus on integrating movement, breath, body and mind through meditation during guided Vinyasa flow classes overlooking Newport Harbor on the rooftop of Grace Vanderbilt. Emily Lawrence will help you experiment with arm balances and coming up against a growing edge both physically and mentally. This class is all-levels. Reservations required.

5. IN AN AWARD-WINNING GARDEN
When: Fridays, 9:30 - 10:30 AM through August 31

6. IN A HAIR SALON
Yes, you heard us right. Part hair salon, part yoga studio, Shrine Salon & Yoga aims to blend inner peace and outer beauty. Classes include hot power yoga, sweet slow flow featuring classic posture, restore and relax yoga where you'll center your body and breath to accept de-stress, aided by the use of yoga props (bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps and more!), and more.
Prefer to keep it outdoors? Shrine Studio hosts Yoga by the Sea at Warren Town Beach every Sunday from 7:00 - 8:00 AM for free and on the rolling lawn outside their studio every Monday at 5:45 PM for $10. Details.
7. ON A SPRAWLING VINEYARD
Un-wine-d with a yoga class amid the rolling grape vines at Newport Vineyards. Presented by Thames Street Yoga, embark on a 1 hour and 15 minute yoga class followed by a Newport Vineyards wine tasting. Don't forget your mat! Details.
When: Fourth Tuesday of every month through August, 5:45 - 7:30 PM.
8. IN A WATERFRONT COURTYARD
Th manicured courtyard at Forty 1 North offers a breathtaking view of Newport Harbor, proving the perfect place to rest and unwind with a round of yoga.
When: Every Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 AM
Admission: $10 per person, free for guests and cardholders.
