Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of our summer season here in the City by the Sea. As the weather warms up, our enthralling city comes to life with family fun, live entertainment, chances to get out on the water and much, much more. By now, our seasonal restaurants and rooftop bars have reopened their doors for you, making it the perfect chance to grab a summer spritzer and catch one of our famous Newport sunsets. 

 

Aside from great cocktails with views to match, Memorial Day weekend brings a tap takeover at Norey's, named one of the best beer bars in America; the Rotary Polo Match at Glen Farm, a sic-chukker dual featuring Newport vs. a regional challenger, and World Match Racing Tour, where the world's best match racing sailors will compete at Fort Adams State Park with the opportunity for you to get up close with the action.

Tiny Giants Photo Exhibit | 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM (Open until 8:00 PM on Wednesdays)

Monday - Saturday through June 19. The Redwood Library will be hosting an inspiring photography exhibit created by Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences, the only independent research laboratory in the world that focuses on microbial oceanography, and brought to Newport by Sailors for the Sea. Tiny Giants: Marine Microbes Revealed on a Grand Scale will feature large-scale exquisite photographs, highlighting the intricate beauty of these invisible marine organisms. Salps, diatoms, dinoflagellates, and many other marine creatures are brought to life in dramatic photographs. Details.

A Celebration of Trees | 11:00 AM

The Helen Walker Raleigh Champion Tree Program, administered by the Rhode Island Tree Council, evaluated the trees on the grounds of the National Museum of American Illustration and Olmsted Park and identified and classified four trees as newly designated “State Champion Trees. Join the museum as their grounds are certified as a Level 1 Arboretum by ArbNet, the international Arboretum certification organization. Rotary Charity Polo Match | 5:00 - 7:00 PM

The Newport Rotary Club's annual benefit match gets the ball rolling again this year at the polo grounds of Glen Farm. Hosted by the Newport Polo Club, the match features the home team, Newport playing against a regional challenger in a classic six-chukker dual. Free. The world's best match racing sailors will compete in Newport at Fort Adams State Park as part of the World Match Racing Tour (WMRT) May 30 through June 4, 2016. The professional sailing event will be set-up within yards of the shoreline for optimal spectator viewing.  Both the start and finish line will be located in front of the public area as well.  Live narration will be provided onshore following the action.
