We officially said our farewells to 2015 last week. January 8: Stand Up Comedy at Brick Alley Pub Brick Alley Pub will host a stand up comedy event featuring Doug Key, Marty Capron and Brian Plumb on January 8 at 8 pm. $10 per person. January 9: Winter Speaker Series: How To Watch the 2016 Elections The 88th Annual Winter Speaker Series begins with Darrell West in a discussion of the candidates, issues, and strategies involved in the 2016 elections. What should people watch for and how should they evaluate the complicated nominating processes in the Republican and Democratic primaries? 2pm. Details. January 14: newportFILM presents The Champions In partnership with Potter League For Animals, Handsome Dans Rescue & Best Friends Animal Society, and supported by Wag Nation, newportFILM presents The Champions, an inspirational story about the pitbulls rescued from Atlanta Falcons star quarterback Michael Vicks brutal fighting ring, and those who risked it all to save them, despite pressure from PETA and The Humane Society of the United States to euthanize the dogs. January 14: Art After Dark at Newport Art Museum The 2016 installment of Art After Dark, Bright New Year, will take place on January 14 from 5-9 pm featuring a special live musical performance by Sky Sabin, early eveningguided tours for children and late night Insomniac Tours for adults, an all-ages scavenger hunt of the Museums permanentcollection, hands-on crafts, libations and light refreshments. January 16: Winter Speaker Series: Magical Seas Through Inspired Lens The second lecture of the 2016 Winter Speaker Series features Onne van der Wal as he documents his journey in photographing his latest work. Details. January 23: Viking Wine Festival From January through March, Hotel Viking will host the Viking Wine Festival, a sequence of exceptional winemaker-hosted dinners. Featured winemakers will pair their wines with a four course prix-fixe menu designed by Chef Barry Correia of One Bellevue. Details.
