Before the “Dawn” of “Mr. Clean” and “Mrs. Meyers”, residents in colonial Newport employed a wide variety of techniques to clean their homes. This History Space program showcases cleaning techniques such as sun bleaching fabric, scrubbing brushes, and even simple sweeping to show how cleaning techniques from the past both differ and compare with the present day.
This program takes place at the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House, 17 Broadway, Newport, RI. Admission costs $5 per person, $4 for NHS members and military, and $3 for children ages 5-12. A combo ticket is available that includes admission for this program and the Road to Independence walking tour which costs $18 per person, $12 for NHS members and military, and $6 for children ages 5-12. To purchase tickets visit: NewportHistoryTours.org. All participants must wear a cloth or medical face covering.
