Salve Regina University’s Extensions Dance Company, directed by Associate Professor Lindsay Guarino, will present here/now at the Casino Theatre from March 1-3, 2018. The concert is a collection of ideas, statements, emotions and stories told through the medium of dance. Choreographers created their works knowing that they will only exist here/now and, because dance is a living, breathing art form, cannot be replicated in the same exact way ever again.
The program will include a range of dynamic choreography from invited guest artists, faculty, and current students. Guests include New England-based Nailah Randall-Bellinger, Eva Marie Pacheco of Providence Ballet Theatre, Betsi Graves from Boston-based Urbanity Dance, Chicago-based Rhode Island native Richard Ashworth, and Spencer Gavin Hering and Andrea Dawn Shelley of iMEE Dance Company. Faculty members Lauren Difede, Melody Gamba, and Lindsay Guarino will premier new pieces. The works range from rhythm-generated jazz to contemporary ballet, and from classical modern to hip-hop.
Additional choreographers include students Haley Andrews, ’18 and Lauren Wyble, ’18. Solos will be performed by graduating seniors Haley Andrews and Marikate McConnell, and also by junior Marissa Masson.
Performances are at 8 pm on Thursday the 1st, Friday the 2nd, and Saturday the 3rd, with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2 pm. The Casino Theatre is located at 9 Freebody Street in Newport, R.I. Tickets are $8 for Salve Regina Students/Faculty/Staff, $10 for Military and Seniors, and $15 for General Admission. Please call 401-341-2250 to reserve your seats or purchase online at tinyurl.com/salvecasino. Tickets will also be available immediately prior to each performance at the box office.
