Free guided tours of the Common Burying Ground in Newport will take place at 10 am on June 9, 23, July 14, 28, and August 11 and 25. The tour will start at the entrance on Warner Street (at Burnside Avenue). The focus of the tour will be stones carved in the 1700s, many from the Stevens shop. A highlight of the visit will be God's Little Acre, the largest collections of gravestones form people of African heritage in Colonial New England, and a review the recent work of the city in conserving these important historic artifacts.
Contact the Newport Historic Cemetery Commission with questions at email@example.com.
A self guided tour is available for the site using the information at the Warner Street entrance or the Farewell (southern) entrance.
