On Monday, December 23, all are invited to celebrate Newport, the cradle of religious liberty in America, and experience a variety of holiday traditions when eight historic houses of worship open their doors to the public.

The Open House will run from 12 – 3 p.m. at the following locations:

Channing Memorial Unitarian Church, 135 Pelham St.
Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 42 Dearborn St.
Newport Congregational Church, 73 Pelham St.
Saint John the Evangelist, 61 Washington St.
St. Mary’s Catholic, 12 William St.
Touro Synagogue, 52 Spring St.
Trinity Episcopal Church, 141 Spring St.
United Baptist, 30 Spring St.

Each participating house of worship has made its own contribution to Newport’s significant history of religious freedom and diversity. Visitors will experience the history and beauty of these structures while learning how each brings its own traditions to the holiday season.

Parking at some locations may be limited, especially at those near Washington Square. Visitors to Touro, Trinity, United Baptist, and Newport Congregational are encouraged to park at the Gateway Center and walk the short distance to these locations. Others, such as Emmanuel, Saint John’s, and St. Mary’s have parking lots at or near their sites.

This holiday celebration is free, open to all, and sponsored by the Four Faiths, Four Landmarks Walking Tour.
