An encaustic or hot wax method consists usually of finely ground pigments of color that are added to melted beeswax. Painters use heated palette and apply the mixture either by pouring, a palette knife or with a stiff bristle brush. Heat is used at different stage as the art work is developed. Cold wax medium is composed again of beeswax in addition to solvents and oil paint. It has a thick consistency and is used at room temperature. Both the hot & cold processes build up layers to give luminosity, translucency and sometimes even opaqueness to the work. Please come and enjoy this exhibition that uses beeswax to achive some remarkable effects. During Gallery Night March 9th we will have demonstrations of methods of painting with wax.
