Home to beaches, farmland, a wildlife refuge, Bishop Berkeley’s Whitehall, and some of the most interesting geological formations in Rhode Island, Paradise Valley embodies artistic, natural, social, and agricultural patterns that have played an important role in Rhode Island’s development and reflect larger regional patterns characteristic of New England in the 18th through 20th centuries. Lecture by Robert Thorson, Ph.D. , geology expert, and Timothy Ives, Ph.D., Principal Archaeologist, RI Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission. Explore the natural side of Paradise and learn about its unique geology on this "walk and talk" along the beautiful trails of the Norman Bird Sanctuary. This tour will highlight natural and manmade topography that contributes to Paradise Valley's scenic character. *This tour will include walking on varied terrain; please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.
