We’re letting travelers in on our best kept secret. Newport may best be known as the summertime playground of America’s wealthiest families during the Gilded Age (hence, the bevy of legendary Newport mansions the wealthy simply called “cottages”), but visitors will find that though summer is extraordinary, the off season is on. Fireplaces at restaurants and inns are lit and we sit a little closer together. Suddenly we take a breath, and the best seat in the house awaits. There’s space at the bar, a little more room in our calendar, and the pace is mindful yet electrifying. In fact, instead of places closing, our destination seems to open in a whole new way.
