If you've got a thing for history-altering performances and a pantheon of artists whose scope of musical talents range from folk and blues to indie folk, country and bluegrass, then you probably want to make your way down to Newport Folk Festival. Since its inception in 1959, the Folk Fest has brought together artists and fans for some of the most accomplished live performances in music history, from Bob Gibson in '59 to Dylan in '63.

At each year's end, we find ourselves wondering how next year will top the prior's, until the lineup is released and we again find ourselves mystified in all the right ways. This year brings big names in the music industry like Fleet Foxes, The Avett Brothers, Rgina Spektor and more.

Four stages, more than 50 artists and one incredible venue. Even better? Your guide to this year's lineup, schedule and more is all on your phone. Download the Newport Folk Festival app on iOS and Android

Now onto the big stuff: How to dress the part.

7. This one may seem obvious, but it's worth emphasizing: Sunnies for when the sun starts shining mid-performance and you don't want to miss a beat.

8.  Consider rompers & jumpsuits your best friends for the weekend. First, because they are the perfect balance of stylish and comfortable, and second, because you don't have the worry about the ocean breeze blowing your dress/skirt places where it should not be blown.

Also keep in mind: New England weather can be unpredictable no matter the season. Layering some type of outerwear, whether jean jacket or sweater, will save you from any unanticipated climate changes!
