While a haunted house is a frightening enough prospect during the Halloween season, haunted hotels might be even creepier—and even more delightfully thrilling. Maybe it’s the influence of so many movies and TV shows, but things going “bump” in the night seem to be even, er, bumpier in an unfamiliar hall packed with sleeping strangers. And with many of the world's most famous hotels being more than a century old, they've wracked up all sorts of tragedies and legends over the decades, as well as peculiar guests and residents who despite checking out, decide to never, ever leave.
