WHAT: Newport Restaurant Week has partnered with Rhode Island Seafood, a collaborative formed by the RI Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to support local fishermen and small businesses and to increase awareness and consumption by the public of locally fished species. The RI Seafood seal, which will appear on participating Newport Restaurant Week participant’s menus, guarantees that a menu item’s seafood was landed right here in Rhode Island waters.
DEM Director Janet Coit will speak about the RI Seafood Collaborative’s mission and the development of the Rhode Island Seafood brand at 2:30pm. Andrea McHugh of Discover Newport will speak briefly as will Geremie Callaghan, proprietor of Fluke. Guests will be invited to taste the local fresh catch bearing the RI Seafood brand from Fluke immediately following the speaking program.
