Nancy Parker Wilson, General Manager of Greenvale Vineyards, has been appointed to Discover Newport’s Board of Directors representing the town of Portsmouth.

A 1981 graduate of Wesleyan University, Parker Wilson has served as Director of Public Information for the Stone Zoo and the Franklin Park Zoo; both in Greater Boston, Mass. There she also led the community relations program at Clarke & Company, a management consulting firm. Parker Wilson later started her own community relations company which included the aforementioned clients as well as Prudential Properties, The Boston GreenSpace Alliance and other area organizations.

An avid preservationist, Parker Wilson served as a Landmarks Commissioner in Boston for her South End neighborhood for eight years. Parker Wilson took leadership of Greenvale Vineyards in Portsmouth in 1992 which sits on a farm that her family built in 1863. Her parents, Cortlandt and Nancy Parker, started to grow grapes there in 1982.

“As a well-known community leader in our region, we are pleased to have Nancy join our board and represent Portsmouth, a town in which the Parker family has had roots for more than 150 years,” said Discover Newport President and CEO Evan Smith. “Nancy’s experience as a preservationist, a community relations practitioner and a small business owner, as well as her active participation in community and civic organizations including the Newport Historical Society, the Preservation Society, the Portsmouth Arts Guild, Portsmouth Free Library and her familiarity with agritourism makes her an especially valuable asset to the future of our organization. I look forward to working with Nancy.”

The Discover Newport Board of Directors is comprised of 18 members with representation from the nine municipalities within Newport and Bristol Counties and five specific industry appointments.

Parker Wilson will serve on the Board for a term of three years.
