Nearly 10 years ago, Newport’s city officials, civic leaders and business owners saw an opportunity to revitalize Broadway, a main artery into the city for more than 100 years. Today, Broadway boasts new, wide sidewalks, additional sidewalks, bright lighting and nearly 20 restaurants showcasing a diverse spectrum of dishes ranging from Japanese ramen and traditional Caribbean cuisine to Irish pub fare favorites and barbecue inspired by regional flavors found across the country. (Pro tip: want to try several places in one fell swoop? Try the Newport Neighborhood Food Tour!) A longtime favorite area for locals, the Broadway district is also home to shops, artisan coffeehouses and outstanding events including the Newport Craft Beer Festival in the spring, the Live Local Music and Arts Festival in the summer and the annual Broadway Street Fair in the fall among other fun-filled happenings.
