New England's Largest Gingerbread Lighthouse

This 16-foot tall lighthouse made of 350 pounds of gingerbread and more than 2,400 pieces of candy is created by the culinary staff at the Newport Marriott.

Stroll through Blithewold’s illuminated gardens and greenhouse and enjoy singing with the carolers alongside free hot cocoa and s’mores around a roaring bonfire in Blithewold’s Enclosed Garden. S’mores kits are 1 for $2, and 3 for $5 (a part of the proceeds benefits the Boy Scouts).

 

BRISTOL'S TREE LIGHTING + GRAND ILLUMINATION

Enjoy music, performances, and free pictures with Santa Claus! Bristol's Tree Lighting and Grand Illumination heralds the arrival of the holidays in downtown Bristol with live music and entertainment, a Christmas sing-a-long, grand illumination of the town tree, chances to meet Santa and more.

 

HOLIDAY FAMILY FREE DAY

When: Saturday, December 15; 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Where: Bristol Art Museum
Admission: Free

Join Bristol Art Museum and Linden Place Mansion to celebrate the holidays. Enjoy a performance by the Wheeler School Holiday Hand-bell Ringers from Providence, a live Santa Sketch in Bristol Art Museum's galleries, a photo-op with Santa in the mansion, cocoa and cookies in the Linden Place ballroom and other holiday festivities for the whole family. All activities are free with your donation to Toys for Tots, accepted at either location.

 

CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY TEAS

When: Recurring weekly on Monday, November 26 - December 17; 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Take a step back in time and celebrate the holidays as the children at Blithewold may have over 100 years ago. Enjoy caroling around the piano with the Very Merry Dickens Carolers, then gather at a private table in the dining room to enjoy tea, hot chocolate, finger sandwiches, and dessert, all served in the style of yesteryear, including elegant china tableware.

 

CHILDREN'S HOLIDAY STORY TIME

When: Recurring weekly on Wednesday, December 5 - 19; 4:00 - 6:00 PM

Admission: Free with regular mansion admission

Enjoy a traditional holiday story time to celebrate the season. Drop in for one story time or stay for all three. After the story, enjoy a cookie and a 1910 inspired children’s craft. Best suited for children ages 4 and up. Bring a new or gently used book to donate to charity and Mansion admission is free to non-members.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

THE MAGIC LANTERN SHOW LIVE

The American Magic-Lantern Theater is the only professional traveling theater company of its kind in the country. This show recreates the Victorian Magic-Lantern Show ̶ a popular 1890s combination of projected color images, live drama, live holiday carols, hilarious comedy, and boisterous audience participation. Each show is followed by hot cocoa, cookies and a Magic Lantern craft activity in the Carriage House.

 
🎄 SANTA'S WORKSHOP

Admission: $5 per child

Includes: goody bag, crafts, cookie decorating, a ride on the carousel, and a visit with Santa.

 

ANNUAL BOWEN’S WHARF TREE LIGHTING

Where: Bowen's Wharf
Admission: Free

Frosty the Snowman and caroling starting at 4:30 PM. Santa and Mrs. Claus. Live music and tree lighting at 6:00 PM.

 

🎄  HOLIDAY CRAFTS AT NEWPORT PUBLIC LIBRARY

When: Saturday, December 1; 2:30 PM
Where: Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street

Children ages 5-12 years old are invited to create holiday crafts perfect for gift giving in the John Clarke Children's Program Rm. All materials provided for this free program.

 

ORNAMENT MAKING + HOT COCOA

When: Saturday, December 1; 4:00 - 8:00 PM
Where: Saltwater Restaurant

Join Santa's helper for ornament making and hot cocoa when you dine in Saltwater. Warm up a variety of cozy items like award winning clam chowder. 

 

SING-ALONG WITH SANTA

When: December 6 + December 13; 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Where: Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum
Admission: $17, $10 children

Bring the whole family to Blithewold for some old-fashioned caroling with the Very Merry Dickens carolers. After you’ve enjoyed your favorite songs of the season, Santa Claus himself will make a special appearance to visit and to read The Night Before Christmas. Once the show has ended, savor cookies and hot cocoa.

 

🎄 CAROLING ON BROADWAY

When: Thursday, December 13; 3:30 PM
Where: Starting at the Colony House
Admission: Free

Join local musician Christopher Carbone, Thompson Middle School chorus and OBNA in a caroling along Broadway. All are welcome to participate.

 

🎄  WINTER SOLSTICE STORIES & CRAFTS

Where: Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street
Admission: Free

For children 2-6 years old + a caregiver are welcome to celebrate with stories, treats and a craft. In the John Clarke Children's Program Rm. No registration required.

 

DIY UGLY SWEATERS (BYOS)

When: Thursday, December 13; 4:30 PM
Where: Newport Public Library, 300 Spring Street

Miss Becky and Miss Christina will show you how to use the vinyl cutter and heat press to "uglify" your outfit for all those fun holiday parties! Participants are encouraged to bring a cotton sweaters or a short sleeve white t-shirt. Designed for teens.

 

WINTER STORIES & CRAFTS

Admission: Free

Celebrate Winter Solstice, the first day of winter, with stories, treats and craft! Children ages 2-6 are welcome to drop-in, no registration is required. Held in the Children's Program Room.
