The charm of our 377 year old city truly comes to life as our Gilded Age Mansions become decked in yuletide finery, the historic cobblestone streets become lined with twinkling white lights and the holiday cheer flows freely. The magic begins Friday, November 25 with a lengthy list of family friendly celebrations to kick off the holiday season.

Bowen's Wharf Holiday Block Party and the Illuminated Boat Parade

Details: The waterfront at Bowen’s Wharf offers exceptional views of the Illuminated Boat Parade which will begin at Goat Island and proceed towards Bowen's Wharf then make its way towards King Park. Newport Holiday Lantern Tour

The Newport Nutcracker

Details: Island Moving Co. invites you to join us for our wonderful holiday ballet A Newport Nutcracker at Rosecliff. Follow our young protagonist throughout the mansion as she celebrates the holiday season with her family, battles with the Mouse King, dances with the Snow Queen and travels with her beloved Nutcracker to the magical Land of Sweets. The first act of this unique performance is an experiential journey as guests are guided from room to room of the historic mansion. Dickens Christmas Dinner Train

Horse-Drawn Holiday Carriage Ride
When: Sunday, November 27 & December 11, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Where: Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum
Admission: $75 for a group of 4, each additional person $10.
Details: Enjoy old-fashioned holiday fun at Blithewold’s winter wonderland on a bow- and garland-festooned horse-drawn carriage ride. Travel down wooded Lover’s Lane, then cross Blithewold’s Great Lawn. Families will be photographed in the sleigh before the ride begins. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served in the Dining Room, where you will wait for your ride. Upon registration, you will be given your time slot for the approximately 15-minute ride. Details.

46th Annual Bowen's Wharf Christmas Tree Lighting

Details: Thousands of sparkling lights will illuminate the tree at historic Bowen's Wharf during the 46th Annual Bowen’s Wharf Christmas Tree Lighting. Enjoy caroling before you meet Frosty the Snowman, Santa and Mrs. Claus at ‘The North Pole’.
- 4:30 PM: Meet with Frosty the Snowman
- 5:00 PM: The Christmas Carol Sing-a-long begins
- 6:00 PM: the Mayor lights the tree, immediately followed by Santa and Mrs. Claus arriving by boat (weather permitting).
Head to the wharf for a magical evening of charm, fun, and good cheer. Restaurants & shops are open before and after the event. Some businesses will offer free refreshments, early afternoon caroling, and shopping specials -- all are decorated for the season! Note:
The Bowen’s Wharf parking lot will be open until 4:00 PM the day of the tree lighting. Two hours of validated parking are available from participating Bowen’s Wharf merchants all season, and there is free parking at designated locations throughout the city of Newport.

Details: Enjoy an authentic view inside a Newport mansion in winter. Heiress Doris Duke spent Christmas in sunny Hawaii far away from Rough Point, her Newport estate. Experience the quiet house, see the decorated staff wing, and hear about Miss Duke's tropical holiday. Learn how Rough Point's winter caretaking traditions have remained the same for the past half century. Tour the first floor and enjoy refreshments in the staff dining room, not normally open to the public. Tours offered every 1/2 hour.
Breakfast With Santa

Details: Bring the children for a fun and unique breakfast on the train as you take a ride with Santa! Choose from pancakes, french toast, or scrambled eggs with sides of bacon, sausage, or homefries. There will be milk and juice for the kids and coffee and tea for the adults. The all table car train is limited to only 60 seats. During the trip children will have the opportunity to go to another car and sit with Santa.
