The Sailing Museum opened its doors May 10, 2022 to the anticipation of sailors and non-sailors alike. The museum’s 8,500 square feet of exhibits will chronicle the history of sailing as a sport, along with galleries that honor the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, one of the most prestigious sailing races in the world, and the National Sailing Hall of Fame.

How Much Time Do I Need?: The average trip through the museum takes 45 - 90 minutes.
Directions & Parking: The Sailing Museum is centrally located on Thames Streets, street parking is available throughout the city, along with private and city lots. For more information on parking in Newport, click here
Accessibility: The museum is located on two floors. Elevator access is available and galleries are wheelchair accessible, please ask any staff member for assistance. *Strollers, bikes and scooters are not permitted inside the museum.

EXPLORE THE MUSEUM

Visitors will experience high-tech exhibits with built-in learning in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Visitors can take a fun quiz to find the best boat that suits their personality, create an avatar to customize their museum experience, design a boat, try steering with both tiller and wheel, work together with other visitors to “sail” a boat – and even design a burgee they can take home.

The museum also showcases the people who make the sport shine including the designers, shipbuilders, historians, Olympians, sailmakers and champions. The Sailing Museum will offer visitors a window into the most exciting personalities in sailing.
