As we enter the new year we're marking our calendars for our destination's upcoming road races. Whether you're a pro athlete or you're looking to dip your toes in the exercise world - this runner's roster has everything you need. Beginners, get your blood flowing with 4-miles across the Pell Bridge at a pace of your choosing. Seasoned runners, enjoy a scenic trail through Newport's winding coastline with expansive ocean views and the perfect sea breeze to keep you cool. Whichever you choose, the following runs are sure to awaken your inner athlete.
The Southcoast Health Aquidneck 10k is back March 26th, 2023. The course will run alongside beach grass and sand dunes, through a wildlife refuge and bird sanctuary, and past stunning homes and historic churches, showcasing the beauty of Aquidneck Island. A portion of every registration fee collected for the event will be donated to the Norman Bird Sanctuary. The event is open to runners of all speeds and starts at 9:00 AM. Register here.
The Farmcoast 5k and walk is a scenic 5k through historic Tiverton Four Corners, and along the Sakonnet River organized by the Amicable Congregational Church. Proceeds from this race help support Amicable in its mission to serve our community and beyond with programs such as T.E.A.M., their Thanksgiving Basket Project and other food drives. Register here.
Newport's first and only nighttime race, Newport Night Run returns on Saturday, April 1, 2023 . The 5k serves not only as a community wide opportunity to get moving, but also as a fundraiser for the Newport Public Education Foundation. NPEF is an independent, non-profit whose mission is to improve the performance of Newport public school children by enhancing their educational opportunities and by building broad-based community support for quality public education.
The BankNewport 10 Miler returns for its tenth annual running on Sunday, June 4, 2023. The oceanside course has stunning views throughout Newport and Fort Adams State Park. This race proudly supports the Fort Adams Trust and the Boys and Girls Club of Newport County. Register here.
The Bristol Independence Rhode Race will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023. In partnership with the Bristol Fourth of July Committee, the half marathon will follow the beautiful downtown streets of America’s quintessential community when it is decked out in its finest – during the Oldest 4th of July Celebration in America. The course includes incredible historic homes, a town common and the America’s Cup Museum before heading out along the scenic coastline, through Roger Williams University and finishing along the water at Independence Park. The Craft Brew Races return to Newport for a fun 5k followed by a craft beer festival! Enjoy a relaxed run (or walk) around Fort Adams State Park, and celebrate your achievement with an amazing craft beer event inside the walls of historic Fort Adams. Register here.
The Jamestown Rhode Race will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023. The event is set on picturesque Conanicut Island and looks out over Narragansett Bay and the Newport Pell Bridge, the largest suspension bridge in New England. The course features vivid landscapes, winding roads, historic Watson Farm, and the village of Jamestown with its small shops and quaint restaurants. Register here.
Voted as having the "Best Half Marathon" and "Best Race Swag", by Competitor Magazine, the 2023 Amica Newport Marathon & Half Marathon returns this fall on Sunday, October 8, 2023. The course is simply astounding: winding ocean-side roads, miles of waterfront views, and sweeping vistas of the grand mansions along Bellevue Avenue. Register here.
Sponsored by Citizens Bank and hosted by the Rhode Island Bridge and Turnpike Authority, this unique 4 mile walk/run event takes participants across the iconic Pell Bridge. Starting in Jamestown and finishing in downtown Newport, this point-to-point event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and speeds! All of the proceeds of this event are donated to local charities.
