Maybe, but Sail Newport's adult sailing program offers sessions of highly individualized instruction aboard their fleet of J/22s and Rhodes 19s. A mile offshore, beyond the reach of Newport’s utility lines and services, the Rose Island Lighthouse stands as an independent, energy-efficient building that was home to keepers and their families for over a hundred years. Today, visitors are invited to tour the museum and stay overnight in one of the museum rooms or become the lighthouse keeper for a week. You'll get a taste of old-time lighthouse life, not to mention panoramic ocean views.
