We're making one resolution in 2025 and it has absolutely nothing to do with eating less lobster mac & cheese. As the ball dropped commemorating a new year, we vowed to experience as many new things as we can in our destination. We're hoping you'll join us.
Try one, or try them all.
Newport is often considered the sailing capital of the world, so it's only natural we suggest you learn to sail in the new year. Intimidating? Maybe, but Sail Newport's adult sailing program offers sessions of highly individualized instruction aboard their fleet of J/22s and Rhodes 19s. All levels of skill are offered, providing you with flexibility to take as many sessions as you wish whenever you wish.
If you've ever dreamed of becoming a lighthouse keeper, this experience is for you. A mile offshore, beyond the reach of Newport’s utility lines and services, the Rose Island Lighthouse stands as an independent, energy-efficient building that was home to keepers and their families for over a hundred years. Today, visitors are invited to tour the museum and stay overnight in one of the museum rooms or become the lighthouse keeper for a week. You'll get a taste of old-time lighthouse life, not to mention panoramic ocean views.
Experience award-winning documentaries, live music and more at some of Aquidneck Island's most beautiful outdoor spaces. Screenings begin at sunset on Thursday's from late June - early September.
You'll have a renewed sense of appreciation for glass artwork after watching the gaffers at Thames Glass or Clancy Designs create inspiring pieces from nothing more than molten glass, a blowpipe and an oven.
Once you've learned all you can, try your hand at crafting on your own (with help from the pros, of course).
Maybe you've seen every inch of our breathtaking island with feet firmly planted on the ground, but perspective changes everything. You won't believe how amplified Aquidneck Island's beauty can become when viewed from 1500 feet in the air.
Make a day of it when you embrace one of Newport Helicopter Tour's Newport-centric packages with options of touring a vineyard followed by a wine tasting, exploring a mansion, or climbing aboard a 12 Meter Charter for a sail afterwards.
Whether you choose a one-hour or two-hour tour (includes a visit to Rose Island Lighthouse!), each trip aboard Save the Bay's education vessel offers vast information on the life of a seal, from their migration patterns and food habits to the laws and regulations involved in conserving this species.
Whether it’s a spot or a pot, tea time on The Classic Coast is the idyllic way to sip, savor or spill the tea with friends or family.
Styled and themed igloos meet cold-weather dockside dining at its finest. Head to The Reef and Diego's Newport for another season of igloo dining.
Begin your year with the art of healing. Known as hydrotherapy, the experience through applies water in the form of hot, cold, steam and ice to help stimulate the circulatory system and detoxify the body. This system has been used by cultures around the world for thousands of years and can be embraced at Newport's Bodhi Spa. Known as the Water Journey, you'll travel through various pools and saunas for ultimate healing and cleansing. Your journey will include:
Climb aboard pedal-powered rail bikes that travel along abandoned railroad tracks alongside the bay when you join Rail Explorers on a fall ride.
