Area restaurants are throwing their buns in the ring with the hopes of being crowned “best burger.”


As the temperatures drop and things get a bit quieter here by the sea, we're cooking up something delicious for burger lovers abound. Newport Burger Bender, our annual "best burger" contest returns Friday, February 16 - Sunday, February 25, 2018, in conjunction with Newport Winter Festival. Restaurants are throwing their best burger into the foodie gauntlet in hopes of being crowned the winner.


Contenders range from beefy burgers featuring local Aquidneck Farms beef (Brix at Newport Vineyards) to prime dry aged beef with butter poached lobster, roasted tomato and parmesan (The Grill at Forty 1 North). There’s also a bevy of creative entries including a double burger with chourico, bacon and cheddar loaded potato skins as the bun (Speakeasy Bar & Grill), a 1/2 pound burger stuffed with Oaxaca cheese & grilled jalapeno, served on a toasted local bun with shaved lettuce, beef and pork ancho chili and avocado crema (Diego's) and more.



Head to our Newport Burger Bender website and pick your favorite burger. The contest is limited to 30 participating restaurants and the burger with the most votes will be crowned the winner. A “Critic’s Choice” winner will also be named by a lauded Rhode Island food critic.

Voting takes place throughout the entirety of the contest, February 16 - February 25, 2018.
